Claude Fable 5 BANNED - WHAT NOW?

Claude, Fable 5, and Mythos have been banned by the federal government. This is very interesting timing. This also, in my opinion, has a lot of undertones you should absolutely be paying attention to. So, you better watch this and you probably should follow through on some of the things I'm about to suggest. So, let me just read the directive here. Uh, this was written by the Claud's devs. As a result of the US government directive, we are suspending access to Claude Fable 5 for all users. You can continue to use all other Claude models. Here's what this means for you. Access across Claude products for new sessions will run on the default model or Opus 4.8. The existing Fable 5 sessions will end with an error on the Claude platform. Request for Fable 5 will also return an error. Please update your integrations to other Claude models. Now, that's not just as simple as it may sound, especially for people that are building things and in the middle of building things right now. That actually has some probably pretty big ramifications for a lot of people out there. We know this is a disruption to your workflows. We appreciate your patience and support. And let's read really quick what Anthropic has written here and that they are citing as the reason. So the US government citing national security authorities has issued an export control directive to suspend access to all Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign nationals whether inside or outside the United States including foreign nationals that are working at Anthropic as employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other cloud models is unaffected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read the full statement below. Also, make sure you do while you're down there, hit like, subscribe, and if you're into learning about being a little bit more independent than relying upon the cloud, this channel is definitely for you. If you check our history, you can definitely find a lot of guides, getting you up and running, building rigs, and settings, and everything else that you need to be fully agentic, fully local. That's one of the things that I have been preaching on this channel. And we really have just crossed the barrier in 2026 to get to a place where we have a actual really good on par not many months behind Frontier kind of look look and feel to local and especially with Hermes agent being really simple and not super resource intensive demanding you can get really great results with things like Quinn 3.6. So definitely check out our guide on how to set that up. So the net effect of this in my opinion is either a that they are I I have to say this. I feel like Anthropic has created a lot of problems. Anthropic has been belly hoing and saying that this is absolutely a national security level kind of model. So now the government's acting like it's a national security model. Oh well, is that surprising to anybody? No, not to me. Is it surprising to you? Let me know in the comments below. I don't think it's surprising for this reason. They create a problem sometimes and then they look for the solution to be from the same people. This is actually the politics playbook in this country also. Create problem have solution to problem. Solution to problem somehow just works out to benefit the person that created the problem in the first place. And is the problem real? I mean certainly we have seen accelerated hacking attempts. I'm not diminishing that there are real dangers out there. The however reaction of pumping the brakes on US advancement in technologies is certainly not going to push anybody forward. That actually is how other countries will take the lead eventually. And if you look at the estimates of about four months being where the frontier of open source is and cloud that's not a huge gap to close that really isn't a huge gap to close at all. I would estimate it's probably a little bit more like six months from my own personal use of things, but I think a lot of people out there somewhere in the four to eight month range you could definitely say. And that really is not that far off. So when you look at something like this, you have to wonder how much of this is self-inflicted. With IPOs on the horizon, you've got massive, massive stakes that are being right now made, fortunes being either made or lost on AI. And if you look at the level of reckless spending on AI that has happened in the cloud level pushed by people that actually do not value open source at all, who actually want to extinguish open source, I think things start to take a little bit different of a tenor. And that's why my advice to you is start backing up your models. Start downloading your local AI models that you think you might want. Go back and look at a couple other quants, possibly download some extra. I think this is a good time to actually start backing up and having also your runtimes backed up. Is this an overreaction? I don't think so. And I think that there is definitely going to be if this is the clamp down moment where the government has said, "Hey, you told us there was a problem. Now we're acting like there's a problem." I mean, shouldn't that have been common sense honestly the entire time what that outcome was going to be? Of course it was. Of course it had to have been. I mean, it would have been ridiculous for it not to be right. Right. Right. So I think it's a good estimation that open source is on deck next to be restricted or possibly even pulled. So your hugging face repos time to back those things up locally. Keep all of your workflows. Keep everything that you think is important to your workflow local. Create your own giddy repository. Start committing to your own local giddy repository. We've seen some insane stuff happening on GitHub recently. Don't fall victim to that. Start putting your stuff on your own local repository. I am taking the next step with my suggestions from where we currently are. We're not currently there yet. But here's the thing. When we get there, if we get there, you won't have an option if you have not already downloaded. So that's why I think you should do that today.
